The Great Siege of Malta

18 MAY - 11 SEPTEMBER 1565
The Great Siege of Malta started on the 18th of May 1565 when the Ottoman Empire tried to invade the island of Malta, then held by the Knights Hospitaller. The Knights, with approximately 2,000 footsoldiers, many of which Spanish, and 400 Maltese men, women and children, withstood the siege and finally expelled the invaders on the 8th of September. This victory became one of the most celebrated events in sixteenth-century Europe and it undoubtedly contributed to the eventual erosion of the European perception of Ottoman invincibility. The epilogue to the Siege was twofold: the Knights of St. John in Malta had seriously diminished the power of the Ottomans. And Malta's magnificent capital, Valletta, was founded by and named after Grand Master Jean de la Valette.
OUR STORY

Malta Watch Company

From original sketch to timeless designs, the Malta Watch Company brings together their passion for design, love of timepieces, and common Maltese roots. We are inspired by the history and stories of Malta, with each timepiece characterizing a time or place from this unique cultural fabric. This opportunity led cousins Patrick and Paul to team up and combine their diverse profesisonal experiences and set up The Malta Watch Company. For the past 11 years, Patrick has been developing and designing original timepieces for various watch brands complementing his career and passion for designing cars over the past 30 years. Malta Watch Company follows on the heels and ethos of Patrick’s Detroit Watch Company, which he set up togehter with his wife Amy, also a designer and a Michigan native whose family is from Detroit.
